NPA Company Background
Established in 1921, The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) is the voluntary UK-wide trade and professional organisation, representing the nation's community pharmacy owners. There are currently just under 13,000 community pharmacies in NPA membership.
Since 1921, the NPA has considerably expanded its remit and services – and has evolved into one of the strongest, versatile, and successful trade associations in the world: providing a vital and credible voice for the community pharmacy profession.
We work to promote and protect the professional and commercial interests of community pharmacists and pharmaceutical services to local communities. Our aim is to translate policy into actions that have a real impact on improving the profile and effectiveness of our members - and community pharmacy in general.
Members are at the heart of the NPA’s business – and our activities and advocacy are driven by our core commitment to provide effective, accessible support and a wealth of services that are the tools which today’s modern community pharmacists need to help their businesses thrive and continue to grow.
NPA Board of Management
The NPA Board of Management directs the overall policy and operation of the Association, and meets ten times a year.
There are 23 Board Members each representing a region of the UK(with two representing the Lloyds and Alliance-Boots pharmacy groups). Only full members of the NPA can become Board Members and they are elected by fellow NPA Members for a three year term of office.
Every April, the Board elects a Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer. Each Board Member sits on one of three main sub-committees - finance, business and practice - in addition to the main Board. The Board also selects five of its members to act as representatives on the PSNC.
The terms of office for Board members is 2 years, and from its membership, the Board elects a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Treasurer. Board members are not paid to serve on the NPA Board - but voluntarily give up their time to serve the NPA and its members, in their governance role.
